I teach several things including, DCT, OJT and Leadership Teacher, SGA Advisor, Student Council Advisor, YAC advisor and School of Government co-advisor. Please take a look at the PowerPoint to get a detailed description of my classes and activities.
DCT is in-school employment related instruction that provides students with “student-centered” (as opposed to “teacher-centered”) selected occupational skills. DCT develops competencies in health, safety, and environmental issues; professional, legal, and ethical issues; finance; leadership; communication; labor and human resources; economics; entrepreneurship; career planning; technology; management; and technical and production skills.
OJT is supervised on-the-job training. OJT provides students with a paid, supervised on-the-job work experience, performed during school hours as well as after school hours for the entire school year.
DCT/OJT program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Diversified Education career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Diversified Education career cluster. This program offers a broad foundation of knowledge and skills to prepare students for employment in network support services positions.
Leadership class is designed to promote student leadership on campus. Class Council officers help to make up this class to provide UNITY on campus. Students use their creativity as well as organization and time management skills to bring activities and events to our campus that promote SCHOOL SPIRIT. Students plan events that include spirit weeks, pep rallies, parades, prom and homecoming dances that provide a sense of TRADITION. Students also learn how to speak in front of small and large groups, advertise for their events and learn different aspects of social media. All working through collaboration, known as TITAN TEAM-WORK!
Instruction:
Face To Face Students:
In-person students come into class and are greeted with a PowerPoint slide to include Titan Target, Objective, and reminders. They use hand sanitizer and then grab a paper towel to wipe disinfecting cleaner off their desks. At the end of the period, the students wipe their computers with alcohol wipes. They will then stand and allow me to spray their desks to sanitize for the next class.
LIVE Students on TEAMS:
Volusia LIVE students are added to a TEAMS account with their class period as the title (ex: DCT 1st pd). Students are then added to the TEAMS class scheduled on the calendar feature at the time of their class period. I share the powerpoint slide that in-person students see as well as any other extra slide or example I might share during class. I also share the link to the Titan TV video announcements each day.
ASSIGNMENTS on CANVAS:
ALL assignments are on CANVAS. Some assignments are not graded assignments, but more of a record of what we do each day. This also helps with LIVE students to know what we are doing in case TEAMS crashes or a student is absent. Assignments are to be submitted on CANVAS for grading. Students are not to email or share documents via Office365.
