 ALA FLORIDA GIRLS STATE is ‘DARE TO COMMIT’

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 259 Debary

June 2023 

PURPOSE:
To provide a unique and coveted educational opportunity for young women to receive citizenship training through a weeklong hands-on program involving a mock city, county and state government.
QUALIFICATIONS: for ALA Girls State
Applicants should have a strong interest in the study of government.  Leadership, trust, honest and good academic standings are important and desired.  Applicants must be in their junior year of high school and returning to their high school for their senior year.  They must be a resident of the state of Florida and be willing to take an oath of office on the Bible (or the book of their faith) and salute the flag.

FINANCIAL: Information
Cost of the week, including bus to & from the meeting location to Tallahassee, and group photo will be paid by ALA Unit 259.  

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Candidates will be interview by ALA Unit 259 Girls State committee members.
Candidates will be notified by March 1, 2023.
Delegates are required to attend a mandatory Orientation.  Parent/guardian must attend an Orientation for the girls to attend Girls State. Date TBA.
Delegates will have pre-Girls State assignments to complete prior to Girls State.
