Every month, CollegeXpress offers students the opportunity to apply for an easy, one-question scholarship that’ll help one lucky student fund their higher education. Students new to CollegeXpress simply have to register with us and answer this question to enter our April drawing:

Volusia County School Counseling Association Scholarship
The VCSCA Scholarship is open to all high school senior students. Students can earn a $200 scholarship by writing an essay describing the positive impact any counselor has had on your life. Digital application can be requested by email to: [email protected]. Deadline for this scholarship is April 7, 2021.
Volusia County Council of PTAs Scholarship
The Volusia County Council of PTAs (VCCPTA) annual scholarship program is open to Volusia County high school seniors with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who have been accepted to a postsecondary institution, and who are also prepared to write an essay about volunteering. Every applicant must be a member of a Florida PTA or PTSA unit and can join a PTA at any Volusia school, or the Florida Sunshine State PTA online. Proof of membership is a required part of the application. This $1,000 scholarship is non-renewable. Applications must be submitted by April 9, 2021.
Phi Delta Kappa Scholarship
The Phi Delta Kappa Chapter of East Central Florida scholarship opportunity is for a graduating senior who intends to major in education or a related field. Please email Ms. Monroe, College and Career Counselor at [email protected] if interested. Deadline to apply is April 13, 2021.
David H. Staples Freedom Fund Scholarship
This scholarship applicant or immediate family member must be a current member of the WV-Youth Council or the WV-NAACP Branch. Applicants must have 2.5 GPA or higher, write a 500-word essay and provide verification of community service within the last six months. Visit [email protected] for more information. Applications must be postmarked by April 29, 2021.
Orange City Woman’s Club Scholarship
This scholarship applicant must be a female senior of University High School and have attended for at least 1 year. Scholarship will only be used for college or university tuition, books, and/or room & board or vocational/technical program tools, kits, uniforms, or consumables. Participation in academic, school and community work will be a factor. Applications must be returned no later than April 30, 2021.
Delta Sigma Theta Inc. Scholarship
The DST scholarship is open to all graduating seniors residing in the West Volusia area. To be eligible for the $1,000 academic or $500 book scholarship, students must have a minimum 2.5 GPA, submit a 500-word essay, one letter of recommendation and an official transcript. Completed applications must be submitted by April 30, 2021.
Electralytes Charity Club, Inc. Scholarship
The Alzada Bradley Fowler LIGHTNING BOLT Scholarship is awarded to West Volusia high school graduates demonstrating leadership qualities, have actively participated in their communities through community service and have a financial need. Students must have a 2.5 GPA, submit two (2) letters of recommendation, and write brief biographical essay. Completed applications must be submitted by April 30, 2021.
Debary Science Scholarship
The DeBary Science Scholarship is a one-time (non-renewable) scholarship award for a total of $1,500.00. Eligible students must have continuously lived at an address within the DeBary, Florida City limits since at least November 2, 2020, have a 2.0 GPA or higher, and be enrolled in a four-year science program at an accredited university by December 31, 2021. Additional information is available at https://debaryscholarship.org. Applications must be returned no later May 1, 2021.
American Muslim Alliance of Florida Scholarship
The American Muslim Alliance of Florida Inc. will be awarding a total of $15,000 in scholarships to twenty-five senior students in pursuit of a college education. The top 5 students will each receive a $1000 scholarship, and 20 students will receive a $500 scholarship. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and compose an essay stating “Why you should be awarded a scholarship, and why you plan to further your studies at a college or university”. The Scholarship Program is open for students of all faith and race. Visit www.americanmuslimalliance.org for more information. Applications must be received on or before May 3, 2021.
Brooks Law Group Scholarship
The Brooks Law Spring 2020 Scholarship is now open for applications. Students can win up to $1,000 for the school of their choice just by writing a short essay on the following: Why do you think the student debt crisis has gotten so extreme? How has the debt problem affected your education plans? If you were in charge, what would you do to fix the student debt crisis? The Pilot Club of the Halifax Area BLOOM Scholarship
This scholarship is established to assist students in Volusia County with a financial handicap. Two annual $500 awards are given to graduating high school seniors and/or undergraduate students who demonstrate a severe financial hardship and a great passion to achieve success. Applications must include a typed essay (250-300 words) on “Why I need this scholarship”. For more information, please email [email protected]. Applications must be postmarked/emailed no later than May 15th.
The PB & J Scholarship
The PB&J Scholarship is for students who have experienced personal challenges that may not have allowed them to perform well academically, but who still have the drive to succeed. Awards range from $500 to $1000. Examples of personal challenges include, but are not limited to:
- Medical issues
- Peer issues: bullying, change of school, minority status, etc.
- Family issues: divorce, death, lack of income, homelessness, foster care, abuse, etc.

The FINAL Seniors FAFSA Challenge will end March 18th. This is it. The last chance to stop by guidance and get your name in for the final gift card drawings. The Florida FAFSA deadline is May 15th
Seniors who have not completed a Bright Futures Scholarship Application, please stop in to see Ms. Monroe or pick up the directions in the guidance office.
ASVAB - Final day to sign up for test is March 18th. Please stop in to reserve your seat if you’re planning to take the test. Test date is March 30th.
DSC– The DSC Foundation will be giving the Principal Award to one University High School Senior planning to attend DSC. You must have at least a 2.0 GPA. Please see Ms. Marracino in guidance if interested.

Juniors, are you a math brainiac interested in engineering? If so, Embry Riddle is looking for you. Stop in to guidance for an application to Embry-Riddle’s summer scholars program. This is an opportunity for you to learn more about engineering design and computer programming, and you’ll also be able to earn one high school weighted elective credit and up to five semester credit hours from Embry-Riddle.
