This introductory course enables students to explore the fundamental properties, limitations, and possibilities of clay through the creation of functional and non-functional ceramics. Students explore basic hand-building techniques, surface design, and the application of formal and expressive elements. Vocabulary and firing processes will be introduced. Content will include cultural and historical connections; reasoning, critical thinking and evaluation skills; and interdisciplinary, real world, and career connections.
