Good Morning Titans…. Here are your morning announcements… first a few quick reminders:

Athletics:

  • Girls Basketball will be conducting tryouts for the 2019-2020 team on October 28, 29 & 30 from 5:00-7:00 each day.Tryouts are open to all 9th-12th grade girls. In order to tryout the EL2 and EL3 forms need to be on file in the Athletic Director’s office. A basketball tryout packet also needs to be filled out and turned in by October 24. Tryout packets are available and can be picked up at the Athletic Director’s office.
  • Congratulations to both the Girls and Boys Bowling Teams for their victory over Matanzas on Monday afternoon.  Both matches were extremely tight but under the leadership of Seniors, Julia Yates and Austin Barrett both teams captured victory 5-2.  The Lady Titans remain undefeated and improved their record to 14-0.  The Boys Team improved their record to 7-7.  Top Scorers:  Austin Barrett (223) and Julia Yates (193).  Again, congratulations goes out to the entire team for their contributions.

UHS Club News:

  • Star Wars Club will meet every Wed. during the first half of lunch in room 1C-208.
  • Anti-Stress Club is having an interest meeting Thursday October 19th 2nd half of lunch in Mrs.Kells room 4-306. Join anti stress club to learn how to reduce stress and do stress relieving activities like coloring and making stress balls.  
  • There will be a UCare Club meeting on Thursday October 24th during the first half of lunch in room 4-310.  Anyone interested it is not too late to come find out what our cancer awareness and support club is all about…
  • Launch Credit Union is officially reopened for this school year. Regular hours of operation will be every Tuesday and Wednesday during lunch.

Guidance & Scholarships:

  • Attention College-Bound seniors: If you need financial aid to help you pay for college, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form. The 2020–21 FAFSA form just opened this week on Oct. 1, 2019. You should fill it out as soon as possible at the official government site, fafsa.gov. Federal funding is limited, so experts urge students and families to file their FAFSAs as soon as possible.The U.S. Department of Education provides email and live chat assistance for FAFSA filers as well as a helpline at 800-4FED-AID.
  • Daytona State College is offering free SAT Math Tutoring from October 19th through November 23rd at 10am until 11:30am at their main campus in Daytona Beach. Students, you should take advantage of this free tutoring offered by college professors.  Registration is recommended.  Call Erika Blanken at 386-506-3919.
  • ASVAB Testing will take place October 31st in the Auditorium.
  • Seniors:  Have you completed at least 10 honors, dual enrollment, and/or AP classes while in high school? Do you have at least a 3.5 GPA?  Excellence in Orange Applications are now available in the guidance office for you.  Deadline to apply is November 1st.

Juniors & Seniors:

  • You can order your class rings or your graduation cap & gown package by calling 407-647-4373 or visit their website at www.herfforlando.com. All orders must be placed by Dec 31, 2019.

Yearbook Announcements:

  • Club Pictures, Academy Pictures and Senior Panoramic(7th period) will be taken on 11/15.
  • Class of 2020, your senior portrait for the yearbook is due by Oct. 28th. Dean Stewart Photography will be on campus Oct. 24…seniors if you would like to take your senior picture on that day you must call DSP at 321-952-9876 to schedule a time.

  • Monday is our Powder Puff playoff game freshmen vs seniors at 6:30 under our lights on our field, tickets in are $3 at the gate.
  • The last day to purchase Dodgeball & Clash class wristbands will be Monday, Oct 7th, see a SGA member or stop into SGA headquarters during lunch.
  • HOCO Dress up week starts Monday Oct. 7th with poyjuice day- twin day, Tues. will be Time Turner Tuesday – Decade day, Wed. will be Dumbledore’s Whacky Cartoon Day, Thurs. is House Clash- wear your class shirt and Fri. Hogwort”s Ultimate Orange & Gray Day – Quidditch Spirit Day.
  • Plan to join us Wed. Oct. 9th at 7pm for our Annual HOCO Pep Rally & Fireworks in the student parking lot. Fireworks to follow @8pm.
  • Join us Friday under our lights on our field as our Varsity Titan Football team takes on the Spruce Creek Hawks at 7pm. Tickets will be $5 at the gate. SGA will be tailgating before the game up on the hill, tailgating will begin at 6pm.
  • UHS’ Homecoming Dance twill be Oct. 12 from 7-11pm in the UHS gym. Homecoming Dance tickets are currently still on sale for $35 in the Activities Office, 2B-110 until the end of the day Wed.  You must have your current student ID and no outstanding obligations to purchase a HOCO Ticket. If you have any questions regarding obligations please speak with Mrs. Pearsall in the activities office.

Athletics:

  • 9/12….Congratulations to the Girls and Boys Bowling Teams for their wins over the Mainland Bucs in yesterday's home match.  A Titan shout out goes to Julia Yates for being the Titan's top performer with a 614 three game series; and to Andrew Barrett, Timothy Pait and Michael Salimbene for also each delivering +200 games. The Titans travel today to Palm Coast for a match against Matanzas High School.Titans let's keep it rolling!
  • 9/13… Congratulations to the Girls and Boys Bowling Teams for another strong performance in their away match against Matanzas High School yesterday.  Both teams captured a WIN and the Girls Team remain undefeated.  A Titan shout out also goes to the Barrett brothers, Andrew and Austin for delivering +220 games.  Again, congrats to the entire team for their contributions.
  • The Lady Titans finish second out of 9 teams Wednesday with a 181 only 3 shots behind Matanzas at par 33 Cranes Lake.  Jordan McKendrick shot a 37 and Kenna Kelting shot a 38 leading the Titans and making the All Area team.  Coral Estes shot a 42, Lindsay Barnes 64 and Lauren Patterson 66.  Congratulations Titans!
  • Congratulations UHS SWIMMERS for their double victory over Atlantic. Taking first place wins were Titans: Chloe Morgan, Ashley Franco, Julia Annunziato and Kiley Stahlman in the girls medley relay and 400 free relay. Alexia Lemus for the 200 free, Chloe Morgan for the 50 and 100 free, Julia Annunziato for the 200 IM & 500 free, Taylor Neumeyer, Ariana Jarrell,  Vivienne Merk & Sydney Focarino in the 200 free relay, Ashley Franco in 100 back, Hunter First, Ethan Berner, Devin Neumeyer & Emiliano Morales in the medley relay, Nick Agosto in the 200 free, Bradley Brown in the 50 free, Ethan Berner in the 500 free, Hunter First in 100 backstroke, Devon Neumeyer in-the 100 free & 100 breast, Ethan Berner, Aden Homan, Raiden Williams & Devon Neumeyer in the 400 free relay. WAY TO GO TITAN SWIM!!!
  • There will be a meeting this Friday during 1st half of lunch for all boys interested in playing soccer in Coach Myers room 1A -305.  

SGA News:

  • Homecoming shirts are on sale until Friday, 9/27 during lunch in the SGA HQ : $10 for sizes S-XL, $13 for 2XL and up. 
  • UHS’ Homecoming Dance will be Oct. 12 from 7-11pm in the UHS gym. Homecoming Dance tickets go on sale today for $25 from Activities Office, 2B-110. Ticket price increases on 9/21 to $35. Date Tickets are $35. You must have your current student ID and no outstanding obligations to purchase a HOCO Ticket. If you have any questions regarding obligations please speak with Mrs. Pearsall in the activities office.
  • SGA will host a Hurricane Dorian relief effort this Friday, 9/13 in the courtyard at lunch. We are asking for new or gently used backpacks, purses, bags which will be filled with personal items at a later date and sent to the Bahamas. 

UHS Club News:

  • Star Wars Club will meet every Wed. during the first half of lunch in room 1C-208.
  • Fall School of Government applications are due Friday, September 13th to Mr. Sarro in Room 1C-105B.   School of Government is a field study program designed to have professionals in government teach students about their experiences.  Field studies include Orange City and Volusia County governments, the 7th Circuit Court, and the legislative session in Tallahassee.  Costs are paid for by generous donations from our local community.   If you have not received an application, please stop by Mr. Sarro’s room at 1C-105B.   Again, applications are due Friday, September 13th.
  • There will be a Model UN interest meeting on Wednesday, September 11th during first half of lunch.   In the interest meeting you will learn about Volusia County Model UN conferences, state conferences, as well as our own conference for new members.  This first school conference in September will be over the fictional topic of a Zombie Apocalypse this upcoming Saturday.   Please stop by this Wednesday, September 11th to learn more about Model UN and our first conference.
  • The first Culinary Club meeting will be Thursday Sep 12, 2019 right after school at 3:45pm in the culinary room 2E-103.
  • Science Olympiad will meet after school this Friday in 1A-308.  The new rules for the 2020 competition are in and we will be distributing copies to all team members at the meeting.
  • Launch Credit Union will be re-opening September 17th at lunch. There will be a reopening celebration that will include cake and prizes. Please join us and open an account. Regular hours of operation will be every Tuesday and Wednesday during lunch.
  • The first NHS meeting for CURRENT members has been rescheduled to Thursday, September 19th immediately after school in the Media Center. 
  • There will be an informational meeting for UCare Club Thursday Sept 19th during the first half of lunch in room 4-310.  uCare club is a cancer support and awareness club.

  • Attention all students:  Are you wondering what you will do after you graduate from high school?  The College and Career expo has lots of opportunities for you. The College and Career Expo is on Tuesday, September 17th from 5:30 to 7:30pm at Mainland High School in Daytona Beach.   There is also a Financial Aid presentation at 5pm and 6:30pm.  All students are invited to attend. 
  • Congressman Michael Waltz Academy Day is an informational session where students can meet officers for military academies this will take place Saturday, September 21st 2019 from 9:30 A.M. to noon at Spruce Creek High School in their auditorium. Registration begins at 9:15 A.M.
  • University of Florida presentation – September 24th at 10:30 A.M. in the Lecture Hall if you would like to attend sign up in the guidance office.

Our new school hours are 8:30-3:30pm…you can find the new bell schedule on our school website. The parent loop and student parking lot gate will be opened at 7:30am. Students will be allowed into the courtyard at 7:45am. Please plan accordingly.

Titans you are to wear your school issued lanyard & student ID around your neck each & every day to be on campus. So, plan accordingly because starting tomorrow, Tuesday, Aug 20 if you do not have your lanyard and ID you will be sent to ISS for the day.  

Our new uniform policy is the following: For your top you can wear any solid color polo or button down shirt with no designs, stripes or polk dots or any university titans tee shirt. For your bottoms, you can wear shorts, skirt or pants any solid color….no design, stripes, tears, holes or rips and NO LEGGINGS.

Titans driving on campus just a friendly reminder spots are not assigned this year. You can park in any parking spot in the student parking lot except the senior painted spots. Parking decals are to be place on the right corner of your front windshield from the inside. The activities office will issue parking decals during lunch today, be sure to have all necessary paperwork (Paper application, license, registration & proof of insurance). Titans if you need a lunch out pass you can see me starting Monday, August 19, be sure to have all necessary paperwork completed (lunch out application). The 2019-2020 Free & Reduced Meal Applications are now available on vcsedu.org …click on the Parent/student tab – then click on Free & reduced Meal Application to complete your application. All students that received free or reduced lunch and have rolled over have until Aug. 31st to reapply.

Titans our first official blood drive will take place next Thursday!!!! The BIG RED BUS will be on campus Thursday, Aug. 22 from 9am-3pm for any UHS student, UHS Faculty or staff member that is interested in donating to a worthy cause. If you are interested please stop by the BIG RED BUS TABLE Set up in the courtyard Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday to be scheduled for a time to donate.

SGA News:

  • Attention Freshmen: SGA’s  freshman class council will hold an interest meeting next Tuesday -- Aug 20 -- during the first half of lunch in Mr. Haught's room, 1C-309. If you're interested in helping make all the exciting traditions of UHS come alive -- such as homecoming events, spirit weeks, pep rallies, and so on -- then you definitely should attend. Once again: it's NEXT Tuesday during the first half of lunch in room 1C-309 with Mr. Haught.
  • Junior Class Council will have an interest meeting on Tuesday, August 20th the first half of lunch in Mrs. McMann’s room 1C-207. If you are interested in being more involved in the school and helping plan events such as homecoming and prom, please plan to stop by and learn what student council is all about.
  • Senior Class Council will an interest meeting on Tuesday, August 20th the first half of lunch in Ms. McCann’s room 1C-310. If you are interested in being involved with various school activities plan to attend this meeting and find out what senior class council is all about.

UHS Club News:

  • If you were born reading stories and you like to talk about what you are reading, then please attend the Interest Meeting for The Story That You Were Born To Read Book Club that will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 from 11:45 to 12:15 in Mr. Vickery's room, bldg. 4, room 303.  This Book Club is open to all grade levels, 9th through 12th. For those interested stop in an d see Mr.Vickery in room 4-303.
  • Titan Theatre & Audio/Visual Club will meet tomorrow, Aug. 20th during the second half of lunch in the black box room. Plan to stop in and find out more info.
  • Earth and Surf Club will have their first meeting of the year on Wednesday 8/21 THE FIRST HALF OF LUNCH in Ms. Cherry's classroom, 3-308.
  • Battle of the Books is here at UHS! If you are interested in reading young adult novels and battling it out in a quiz-bowl styled competition against other schools in Volusia County, then meet with us in Mrs. McKenzie’s room in Building 3 Room 211 during lunch on Friday August 23rd.
  • GSA, Gay Straight Alliance will meet on Friday, 8/23 during lunch in room 3-204.

  • Tri-M Music Honor Society is currently accepting applications until September 3rd to all students enrolled in a music class. Tri-M Honor Society is designed to recognize students for their academic and musical achievements and to provide leadership and community service opportunities to young musicians. UHS TITAN SUMMER 2019 ANNOUNCEMENTS

2019-2020 New school hours are 8:30am to 3:30pm.

Students will not be allowed on campus prior to gates opening. Gates will open at 7:45am. Please plan accordingly.

First Bell to report to first period class will ring at 8:24am.

Tentative Orientation/Schedule Pick Up dates are Monday, July 29th from 2-6pm for all 9th graders, Tuesday, July 30th & Wednesday, July 31st from 2-6pm for all students. This will take place in the cafeteria. Students will receive their schedules, student IDs and be able to make necessary purchases.

Class of 2020...Would you like to paint your parking spot? SGA is hosting their first annual "PAINT YOUR SPOT" Fundraiser to raise money for your senior legacy gift.  The applications to paint your spot will be available during Orientation/Schedule Pick Up. Be sure to complete the application, submit your design and pay your fee of $25 by the end of the day Monday, Aug. 5th. Your design MUST be approved before you can start painting your spot. There are scheduled paint days, they are Thurs. Aug. 8, Fri. Aug. 9 & Mon. Aug. 12th from 8am-12pm. Please keep in mind you still need to purchase a parking decal for $48 for a grand total of $73.

All students will be issued a school ID and lanyard during Orientation/Schedule Pick Up. These IDs are to be worn on the provided lanyard. Students are to wear their lanyard and ID each and every day as part of their school uniform.

The first day of school for freshmen, 9th graders will be Monday, August 12, 2019.

The first day of school for Sophomores, Juniors & Seniors will be Tuesday, August 13, 2019.

All students will have their 2019-2020 yearbook /ID photos taken on Tuesday, August 13. More information to follow in the coming weeks.
